ToneWorks is the division of Korg that focuses on guitar pedals, effects processors, and amp modeling. Their portable Pandora series is serious pocket-sized power in the form of a personal practice studio and multi-effects processing unit for recording or live performance.
ToneWorks AX3000G Guitar Modeling Signal Processor
The Toneworks AX3000G Guitar Floor Modeler/Effects Pedal packs over 72 models and effects sounds. These include a wide array of vintage modern amps, cabs, pedals, and pickups; a full slate of standard effects such as chorus, delay, and reverb; plus some brand new effects such as Filtron. You can use the Acoustic effect to transform the sound of your electric guitar into that of an electro-acoustic, or Pickup Modeling to transform the tonal character of your pickups without switching guitars. The AX3000G also provides send/return jacks that make it easy for you to connect your favorite effect unit There’s even a digital output (S/PDIF optical) jack so you can digitally record your playing. A built-in expression pedal can be used in the standard ways for volume and wah, but also can be assigned to other parameters to provide an additional layer of realtime control and unusual effects. For example, if you assign the Manual parameter of a flanger to the pedal, you can use the pedal to control the sweep, creating a highly distinctive sound. By assigning the Toneworks pedal to control the delay time of the Echo Plus effect (which models the sound of a tape echo), you can use the pedal to control delay time. The AX3000G pedal can control the reverberation time of a reverb effect, the modulation speed of a chorus, flanger, or phaser, and much more. The AX3000G also provides a dedicated control switch for effects, which is especially useful in live performance. For example, you can use it to switch an effect block (such as the pre-effect or insert effect) on and off, to set effect parameters such as tap tempo of a delay in real time, to switch the rotational speed of a rotary speaker effect, or to control the Expression Step Sequencer (ESS). The Expression Step Sequencer or ESS is an especially innovative feature. It automatically controls effects parameters in a fixed or random way. It allows 8-step control and a choice of 7 possible variation types: forward, backward, alternate 1/2, random, one-shot forward, alternate 1/2 one-shot. Sequencer playback can be slowed or sped up with the expression pedal, and the overall result is sounds with complex movement. Other features include a S/PDIF optical output, insert send/return, stereo aux input, and headphone output. A built-in auto chromatic tuner operates automatically when the Toneworks AX3000G is bypassed or muted. Simply by selecting Mute mode when you’re on stage, you can tune without producing sound from your guitar amp. The note name is shown in the bank display, and the pedal indicator and name display provide an accurate pitch indication that is easy to see even on dimly lit stages.
ToneWorks Pandora PX4A Acoustic Personal Multi-Effects Processor
The Pandora PX4A Acoustic Personal Multi-Effects Processor transforms sterile-sounding piezo output into deep, warm acoustic tone for great sound whether practicing, recording, or playing live. 82 effects include REMS modeling of the resonance and vibrational character of great acoustic guitars. Vintage and modern instruments have been modeled with painstaking detail to produce realistic, rich, and natural sound. Models also include a resonator guitar, a banjo, 12-string, and a nylon-string guitar. There’s even one that simulates the drone tones of ethnic instruments such as a tambura. There is also a full range of standard effects such as compressor, limiter, echo, delay, reverb, and chorus. The PX4A has 50 presets and 50 user programs that allow up to 8 simultaneous effects per program. Also included is a notch filter effect for protection against feedback, plus an auto notch function that automatically detects the feedback point during performance. Like other Pandoras, the PX4A offers an intuitive, knob-based interface and backlit LCD display. The TAP button can be used to set delay times or a rhythm pattern tempo. A sophisticated phrase trainer can record up to 30 seconds from an external audio source for looped playback, which can then be slowed down without affecting the pitch. While in Phrase Trainer mode, you can record any of the 100 PCM-based, built-in rhythm and bass patterns and their instrument simultaneously, then practice soloing over the recorded phrase. The aux in jack lets you play along with external audio sources, and a key transpose function allows you to shift the key of the external audio source for versatile practice. An auto chromatic tuner with a mute function is also included. The PX4A can be powered by 4 AAA batteries for up to 10 hours of continuous use, or by an optional AC adapter.
ToneWorks Pandora PX4D Personal Multi-Effect Processor
The Toneworks Pandora PX4D Personal Multi-Effect Processor combines vintage amp models, a wide range of cabinet models, plus a combination of classic and unique effects for great guitar or bass sound whether practicing, recording, or even playing live. The processor’s 158 effects deliver fantastic tones, including 25 amp types from high-end tube amps to rare vintage amps and everything in-between. The creative possibilities are practically limitless. For example you can combine a guitar amp with a bass cabinet. The PDX4 delivers a versatile range of tones with numerous realistic modeling effects in addition to standards such as compressor and wah. Pickup modeling transforms the sound of a single-coil pickup into that of a humbucking pickup (or vice versa), a guitar (bass) synth that lets you play synth sounds, an intelligent pitch shifter that automatically harmonizes with your playing, a talk effect that produces the impression that your guitar is speaking, a slow attack effect that creates violin-type swells, a feedback effect that allows feedback playing techniques that are normally possible only at high volumes, a rotary speaker that changes speed in response to your picking or fingering dynamics, a fretless bass effect that simulates the distinctive sound of a fretless bass, and many more are all at your fingertips, ready to spur your creativity. The PX4D Multi-Effect has 200 programs, including 100 preset programs and 100 user programs. Like other Pandoras, the PX4D offers an intuitive, knob-based interface and backlit LCD display. A sophisticated phrase trainer can record up to 30 seconds from an external audio source for looped playback, which can then be slowed down without affecting the pitch. While in Phrase Trainer mode, users can record any of the 100 PCM-based, built-in rhythm and bass patterns and their instrument simultaneously, then practice soloing over the recorded phrase. The AUX IN jack lets users play along with external audio sources, and a key transpose function can shift the key of the external audio for versatile rehearsal. An auto chromatic tuner with a mute function is also included. The Toneworks PX4D can be powered by 4 AAA batteries for up to 10 hours of continuous use, or by an optional AC adapter.
